Understanding Soils
Essential Groundwork
Success Starts with Soil
We believe that true success begins beneath the surface. Understanding your soil is the first step toward long-term productivity and stability. Our services focus on establishing a productive foundation by accurately measuring and managing soil chemistry, water, and air. This essential groundwork enhances nutrient availability and minimizes environmental stress.
Our Aim
Provide the insights necessary to implement sustainable practices that increase soil health and improve your bottom line for generations to come.
Soil Sampling
Guesswork has no place in a profitable operation. Soil sampling provides the critical data needed to make informed fertility decisions that prevent waste and maximize nutrient efficiency. We use precise methods to collect and analyze samples, ensuring your fertility recommendations are based on accurate, detailed information about your field.
Our Process
We use a hydraulic probe-driven soil core collection method to ensure consistent depth and samples.
Up to 12 cores are pulled from each management zone, which is defined by soil type maps, yield maps, and the farmer's historical field insights. This allows for the precise, variable-rate management needed to address differing nutrient needs across a field.
All samples are sent through Ag Spectrum. The total turnaround time is usually between 4-7 days, allowing for timely data review and proactive decision-making.
The results assist in making proactive decisions regarding crop/hybrid selection, liming/amendment inputs, and land management.
Key Components of Soil Health
Successful soil management involves balancing several critical components to optimize plant health:
Soil Chemistry
Air & Water Management
Focus: This management addresses drainage, Ca/Mg ratio, compaction, soil biology, and water infiltration.
Microbial Activity
Role: Microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, protozoa) contribute to nutrient cycling, availability, and form symbiotic relationships with plants, aiding nutrient absorption.
